Four Questions to Ask when Hiring a SEO Consultant

Are you bombarded with solicitations for search engine optimization and unsure as to where to start, who to speak with and what you need?

SEO consultants are plenty. However, your business needs are different, specific and unique — and your SEO consultant should be as well.

Here are four questions to ask when seeking to hire a SEO consultant:

  1. Do they use black hat methods or are any of their methods considered black hat?  “Black hat” techniques are questionable or spam-essence methods for directing traffic to your landing page.  While getting people to your landing page is your main priority, using these type of methods to increase your website’s ranking is subject to penalty by Google and other search engines.  What can you do? Ensure the methods your SEO consultant employs are acceptable.
  2. Money, Money, Money – Do you have it?  Remember you get what you pay for and, unfortunately, when it comes to specials or low rates the results may not be what you up to your expectations.
  3. Reference list, please? Just as you would check references for new employees, you should check references for your potential SEO consultant. Also, ask for work samples and details about successful projects.
  4. Have them tell you a story.  Similar to checking references, ask them to tell you about a particular successful project or a project that was difficult and they overcame? Do these questions sound familiar? They should because they are employment interview questions designed to provide you insight into the person you are about to hire.

How to Minimize in the New Year

If you are like many people, the new year comes with resolutions that aim to make life healthier, happier, and less complicated. Whether you resolve to enjoy more meals at home with friends and family or to practice daily meditation, the goal to embrace simple actions that can lead to beneficial returns is a good one. Decluttering your home is another simple resolution that favors a minimalist approach to the new year and one that can have a big impact on your enjoyment of your space. Not only will your house feel more open and expansive, but the organization and feeling of having just what you need on hand can minimize stress and improve your wellbeing. If you are looking to take a deep dive into decluttering and reorganizing all your stuff, here are four tips to help with the task.

  1. Prepare for your piles

To get started, gather what you need for the four piles into which you will sort your things: Keep, Toss, Donate/Sell, Store. This can mean getting a self storage unit in Concord for items you don’t need in your home, contacting any group you plan to donate to so you can learn their donation policies, or even renting a large dumpster if you know you will have a lot to throw away. It can also be helpful to use four containers, one for each pile, that you use as you sort the items in each room.

  1. Take it one room at a time

Paring down the contents of an entire house can feel overwhelming. But if you take it one room at a time, the project quickly becomes more manageable. In order to build momentum, consider starting with an easy room and work your way up to the attic filled with who knows what.

  1. Organize as you go

Once a room has been decluttered, create an organization system that ensures everything you keep has a place. You can install new shelving or use baskets or storage containers to make the most of the space available. If you find there still isn’t enough room for everything in your Keep pile, you might want to do another pass and add more to your Store pile.

  1. Have a yard sale

For the items in your Donate/Sell pile, consider putting together a yard sale or posting them on the various resale websites and community forums. Whatever doesn’t sell, you can donate to a local organization. And don’t forget to get a receipt for the value of the donation, this can be used as a deduction for your taxes next year.

From your bedroom to the garage, decluttering in the new year will open up your home and give you a fresh start. For help in your resolution to minimize, contact Abba Storage for all the items in your Store pile. Whether you just need a small self-storage unit for your holiday decorations and seasonal gear or car storage units in Concord to finally free your garage of the vehicles you rarely use, the team at Abba Storage is happy to help.

Storing a Car You No Longer Use

There are many reasons people turn to car storage units in Concord for their vehicles: the car may hold real or sentimental value but they no longer drive it or have space for it, they may be looking for a secure place to store a vehicle they only use seasonally, or they may be traveling for an extended period and need a place to keep their car. Whatever the reason, there are a few helpful tips to keep in mind when storing a vehicle. Here are eight ways to help ensure your car remains in great condition while it is in storage.

  1. Find secure storage. Just like you would vet self-storage or contractor storage units for your valuable stored items, look for a facility that offers secure car storage. This means your vehicle is kept safe from the elements, only approved people have access to the facility, and security measures like cameras and on-site staff are in place.
  2. Prep your car for storage. Though it may seem counterintuitive, it’s a good idea to prep your car as if you were going to show it off before you tuck it away for an extended period. Thoroughly cleaning your car means it will hold up better over time. This includes vacuuming, cleaning, and oiling the interior to ensure nothing attracts rodents or insects and washing and waxing the exterior to help preserve the paint.
  3. Fill the tank. Again, it may not make sense to have a full tank of gas for a car to sit in one spot, but filling the tank and adding a gasoline stabilizer is a smart move if you are storing your car for longer than 30 days. This prevents moisture from accumulating in the gas tank and keeps the seals from drying out.
  4. Consider a vapor barrier. If your car will be parked on unsealed concrete or another porous surface while in storage, lay down a plastic sheet or tarp to create a vapor barrier. The sheet will keep moisture that evaporates from the floor from reaching the underside of your car.
  5. Remove the battery. Even when you are not using your vehicle, some electrical systems in your car can end up draining your battery over time. To preserve your battery, remove, inspect, and clean it and store it inside your car or on a clean dry surface in the facility.
  6. Lubricate the hinges. For parts that might be vulnerable to moisture build-up and corrosion, like door hinges or the hood release hatch, give them a good once-over with a quality lubricant to protect them from damage.
  7. Seal the engine. Ideally, your car storage facility does not have an issue with unwanted critters, but just to be safe and make sure no one makes a home out of your engine, take moment to seal it off. This can be as simple as placing clean rags in any openings like the tailpipe, fresh air intake, and the engine air intake. However, remember to take the rags out before getting your car back on the road!
  8. Give it a spin occasionally. If possible, start up your car and give it a spin at least every 60 days, ideally for 30 miles or more.

Is Insurance Really Needed for Your Items in Storage?

For most people who rent self-storage units in Concord, they aren’t simply looking for a space to put their junk. One of the main reasons to spend money on a storage unit is to keep valuable items safe and secure. For this reason, it is important to consider purchasing insurance to make sure those valuable items are even further protected in the event they are damaged or stolen. Read on to learn the dos and don’ts of storage insurance so you can feel confident in the security of your stored items.

Do check with your current insurance agency

Some homeowners’ or renters’ insurance agencies provide coverage for your possessions, no matter where they reside. However, this is not a standard feature of most policies. Many insurers only cover your possessions when they are on the property of your main residence. If this is the case, ask if they have policies with storage insurance, which will cover your stored items for incidents like natural disasters, damage, or theft.

Don’t forgo insurance if your agency doesn’t provide it

If your homeowners’ insurance agency does not offer a policy with coverage for your stored items, don’t give up. After all, these are likely important possessions with a great deal of real and personal value if you have taken the step to put them in storage. There are some insurance agencies that specialize in storage insurance policies that may also be able to offer flexible terms for policy duration that match your storage unit lease terms.

Do ask your self-storage unit facility for assistance

If you are not sure where to start, the customer service representatives at your storage facility can be a great resource. They can point you in the direction of insurance agencies they know and other storage renters recommend, or they might offer their own insurance at the facility for items not covered by homeowners’ insurance.
